Poetry
Jailer Of My Dreams

Theresa Whitworth

Set me free, oh jailer of my dreams
Free me from your chains of fear
Quell my silent screams

Return to me, my dignity
The innocence you stole
Silence all the demons
Which dwell inside my soul

Banish away the beast of prey
Who lurks where shadows loom
The evil smell of trust decayed
Which penetrates my tomb

You scooped away my innards
Hollowed my insides
But the shell that you discarded
Grew stronger and survived

So Devil of my childhood
Crawl back into your private hell
And live in fear forever
Of the secrets I could tell
