March 15th at 2:05 a.m.
the tap started dripping,
and when I brought you
home wearing your first
pair of booties, I heard
it pattering in the sink,
soft and tender.

But today, I fold the blessing dress
you will never wear,
and place it, limp and silent,
in a box, knowing,
that although your body
will return to the earth,
the tap will not stop dripping,
like a beating heart.
