Kathleen Brand

Time begins and then it ends
The knock upon the door
The uniform, the somber face
The wait that is no more

The news that changes life at once
From all that could have been
The words that are both real and not
The hope that dies within

The wanting first to understand
And then to never know
The news that travels all too fast
While traveling all too slow

The doubts, the questions and the thoughts
That race around the mind
The friends, the comfort and support
The answers yet to find

Letting go while holding on
And wanting life to stay
The same as it has always been
The same as yesterday
