Solitude
Vicki Vogt
On the porch
Eating fresh bagels,
strawberries
Wind excites my nose
With whiffs
of cinnamon, cedar wood
butterflies sink
then soar over
begonias
squirrels wrestle
on the wooden fence,
rush down and drink
from the pool
crickets play music
confusing the dawn
for dusk
a paperback
rests open, unread,
on the table.
