Wounds

Jody Zolli

Darkly broached, another dawn
Lifts us from our silent stupor
Softly sipping daily doses
Of love´s damaged diagnosis

Daylight finds us pained and pallid
Clock strike startles us aware
Marks meticulous, detailed
The laundry list of how we failed

I rise to greet this daily stranger
Striving to retract my claws
Regretting I´ve already bled
This foreign body in my bed

Customary chores a curse
Habits dance us daily still
Routine dallies, cringes, croons
Retreat, recoil, we nurse our wounds
