A Drift Toward Midnight

Clem M. Bascar

Just a few more sunsets
are left for us to watch
much fewer though
the dawns forthcoming.

We care not
whether rose-colored clouds
still adorn the skies
upon the rise and fall of daylight
they donīt belong to our lifetime
anymore.

For a while, almost forever
I dared to walk on a tight rope
and allowed my reverie to promenade
around the fantasies
we built.

Now worlds of total strangeness
emerge as we fall into another
realm of consciousness
in between sighs of seasons
midnight offers
no slumber
to our weary
souls.
