Maggie Shayne´s Destiny

Hello, and welcome back! I´ve been enjoying some new romances to share with you this week, and hope you´ve been doing the same.

First up is Susan Meier´s "Cinderella and the CEO" (Silhouette Romance). Deke Bertrim is working undercover in his parents´ factory, trying to find the source of an inventory discrepancy. But when he meets Laurel Hillman, his hostess and the supervisor in shipping & receiving, he gets a little sidetracked. But both must be cautious, Laurel because she´s already been married once and knows what to expect from executive men, and Deke because though Laurel may be beautiful, she could also be a suspect. Ms. Meier´s characters are finely drawn and true to life as usual, making you want to cheer for this couple to overcome their differences. This one gets four of Cupid´s five arrows.

The second book I read this week was "No Hiding Place" by Maureen Dennis (iUniverse). Young student Naomi Pemberton is in hiding. Her boyfriend Kevin has involved her in something terrible and both have had to go on the run. When she finds herself attracted to the mysterious man next door, things look a bit better. Until she learns he´s a policeman. While this story has some promise, I found myself wishing the pace would pick up, and that Naomi would just make up her mind what she needed to do. This one earns only two of Cupid´s arrows. I look forward to seeing the growth of this writer in the future.

Maggie Shayne has done it again, with Destiny
Destiny
(Jove). Nidaba, an ancient Sumerian immortal High Witch, has been fighting for her life against the Dark Witches. Nathan King, also an immortal High Witch, has been living the life of an antiques dealer, not taking part in the struggle between the witches. Until he sees Nidaba´s picture in the paper and learns she is an unidentified patient in a nearby mental hospital. He´ll risk everything he´s come to love in his comfortable life to rescue the woman he loved thousands of years ago and to keep her safe from those who would do further harm. This is the latest book in the world of "Eternity" and "Infinity" and is equally wonderful. The characters´ inner and outer struggles are truly believable. I´m giving this one four and a half arrows. I can´t wait for the next installment!

Finally, I wanted to let you all know that CBS will be airing their version of Nora Roberts´ "Sanctuary" on Wednesday, Februrary 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Word is Ms. Roberts was very happy with the script and casting of the movie. I hope they´ve done it justice. Melissa Gilbert and Costas Mandylor star as Jo and Nathan.

Join me this week in our regular chat on Wednesday afternoon, or email me to let me know what you´re reading now. Happy reading.
