Wendys on Low Carb / Atkins

Wendys is a popular restaurant chain that can be found just about everywhere you might travel. Here is some advice on eating at a Wendys when you're on a low carb or Atkins diet.

First of course, avoid those baked potatoes which used to be my favorite treat. I suppose eating all those potatoes is why I never lost weight on my "healthy diet"! :) We haven't found their salads to be as tasty as the one at McDonalds, but you can get a garden salad if you want.

What we normally order is the bacon double cheeseburger without mayo - one or two for me, two or three for my boyfriend. We ask to get a plate, knife and fork with it. We also order the iced tea which is unsweetened and tasty.

My boyfriend is able to just drop the buns and eat the insides as a unit - without mayo, it's nice and dry and you just lick your fingers afterwards. I sometimes use the buns as a "food holder" and eat my way through the meat, but mostly I will use the plate, fork and knife to eat the burger in pieces. It is amazing how much more slowly you eat when you eat that way, and how you eat less in general because you get full before you've wolfed down multiple burgers. It gives your body a chance to say "I'm full now!" before you've stuffed too much into it. So I highly recommend the plate method.
