The first is "Magic by Daylight" by Lynn Bailey (Jove). Clarice Stavely is Lady of the Manor and, sadly, has never found a man to love. The mysterious Dominic Knight arrives after she has two frightening encounters with ´the Rider.´ Unbeknownst to Clarice, Dominic has been sent by Forgall to protect her from a war in the faerie world. This story kept me enthralled till the end, though I admit it felt a bit slow at the start. Dominic is a wonderful hero, and Clarice is more than his equal. Along for the ride are Clarice´s young nephew Morgain and her presumed-dead mother Matilda. I have seen only a few books with faeries, and this delves into the legends and brings them alive. For fans of magickal romance, this one is a keeper. Of our five arrows borrowed from Cupid, this one gets four.
Our second book this week is "Soul Survivor" by Susan Plunkett (Jove). Roxanne Griffith is a woman without a close family. Her father disappeared from their lives long before he was MIA in Vietnam. She has no sense of belonging, not to a family, or anywhere else. Spencer Griffith works for a foundation to bring home the remains of those still missing. In his personal search for family, he´s found Roxanne´s father´s belongings. When she rejects both her father´s things and Spence, she accidentally spills her father Matt´s things onto the floor, freeing his ghost. This book has some humorous moments and some heart-wrenching moments as well. I really enjoyed this one, and ghosts usually don´t appeal as much to me. Roxanne is a woman in need of healing, and sine this is a romance, you know she´s going to get all she desires, including Spence´s love. You know by now that I can´t tell you how, though. You´ll have to read it and find out yourself. This one gets three and a half arrows. Cupid´s arrows are getting a workout this week.
Let me know what you think of these two books. Drop me an email or post a message to the forum. I´ve got a small stack of books here to be reviewed, so you know what to expect the next few weeks. Happy holidays!
