To save these photos as your desktop image, click on the thumbnail to expand it to its full size and then right click on the full sized image and select Set as Background from the resulting drop down menu.
If the image on your desktop does not stretch all the way across, go into Control Panel from your Start menu, select Appearance/Change desktop background
This will open a menu that allows you to choose whether the image fills your entire desktop or just appears in the middle of it.
These images are a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. This size should easily fill most monitors.
