Quechee Gorge is a neat place to visit. You can find it on Route 4 in Quechee, Vermont. The gorge is on the Ottauquechee River. Of course, there is a bridge over the gorge. You will find ample parking on both sides of the bridge.

On the east side, there are trails leading both up to the top of the gorge and also to the bottom. The total walk for both trails round trip is about 3 miles.

On the way to the top of the gorge there is a great place to have a picnic under the pines. The walk to the top of the gorge isn't too spectacular, but it's interesting. At the top there is a dam and what appeared to be a power generating operation.

The bottom of the gorge is much more fun. The walk to the bottom is downhill and there are places where you can easily look over into the gorge. At the bottom are a lot of flat rocks you can sit on and sun yourself or have your picnic. It's fun just to sit there and watch the water rush by. You also have a good view of the bridge over the river and gorge.

Also, on the eat side is a gift shop - I bought a magnet for a souvenir. Magnets are my souvenir of choice. They also allow you to use their bathrooms. Very nice people.

If you didn't bring a picnic lunch you can go to the Quechee Gorge Village, just down the road from the gift shop. It's a strip mall. There is a family style restaurant there - The Farina Family Diner. This is in an authentic Worcester diner car. Also, at the Quechee Gorge Village is the Antique Mall. This is where people have put their antiques and other items up for consignment. I had a good time looking through everything and saying, "My mom had one just like it!"

Another fun thing is you can get a little train ride at the Quechee Gorge Village for $1 a ride. Ok, it's a little tacky, but hey that's the tourist industry. I probably would do it if I had had my kids with me.

If you don't want to stop at the Quechee Gorge Village for lunch go down the road a little further and you'll find the Black Angus Café and a nice little family restaurant. I don't recall the name of the little family restaurant, but the food and service were good there.

To fill out your day, go to Simon Pearce Glassware and Pottery. You can watch the artisans blowing glass and also making pottery. There is also a restaurant here as well.
