Creating a Sacred Space For Better Health

Having a place to call your very own is extremely healing to the mind, body and spirit. It is a place where you can rejuvenate, center your heart and mind and acquire a peaceful feeling that all is well within your world. We all need a moment when we can just stop, reflect and go into ourselves to get our bearings.

Creating a sacred space is not difficult with a little thought and consideration, any quiet room in your home will work. I have friends how have converted a small portion of their attic into a place where they can go. If you don’t have an entire room that you can set aside, try finding a corner in a room that you can convert into something that reflects you. By adding a few pillows that you love or an old quilt, something that brings you peace when near.

Other things that work well are hanging plants, playing soft music, pictures of places or things you love are all helpful in bringing you peace of mind. Once you have your small space and after you have made it your own, you can then start to use it in your daily routine to increase the peace you wish to bring into your life. Some like to make a small altar where they can reflect on spiritual beliefs and practice a quiet time of prayer. If you are going to use it for meditation make sure it is a place quiet enough where you can focus and not be easily distracted.

Once your sacred space is set up and you are ready to use it, establishing a habit is very important. Your sacred space will not serve you well if you don’t use it. Making a scheduled time in the beginning will help you become accustomed to using it. Once you have done this for a period of thirty days it will become automatic in your daily routine. We nourish our physical bodies but we also need to nourish our minds and souls to stay in balance as human beings. I strongly encourage all who are able to create your sacred space and take advantage of this wonderful practice. It can truly change your life as well as benefit your soul.
