WATERS Review

With a nautical, well-travelled background, the latest emerging band called WATERS creates music that is catchy, rambunctious and fun. Based on scruffy guitar melodies and just one loud, rousing voice, the sound of WATERS is unique and raw.

Singer and musician Van Pierszalowski, who is formerly from the band Port O’Brien, started WATERS after the band broke up in the spring of 2010. After taking time to find himself as an artist and traveling to places like Alaska, New York City, San Francisco, and Oslo, Norway, he resurfaced with a fresh start and a new musical outlook. WATERS’ debut recordings, titled Out in the Light, was created in Norway and recorded in Dallas, Texas by producer John Congleton. The disc contains an obvious early 90s era musical influence, which is something that Van was leaning towards for his new beginnings.

Pierszalowski says that his vast amount of traveling helped to inspire and create the music of WATERS, and there is definitely more of a rock and roll vibe with this new project than there was with his former band. The sound is very raw, relatable and unique; the song Mickey Mantle is about the fear of failure, which obviously stemmed from the loss of his former musical career, and the start of this new one. I like that he’s not afraid to push the boundaries and write/sing about things that are emotional for him, as well as deeply-rooted and stem from his own experiences and passion.

With music that is about waking up, breaking free and starting over, WATERS will draw fans in simply with his touching and understandable background. The music is loud, full, slightly aggressive and raw; it contains a mixture of fuzzy guitars, crashing drums, soaring melodies and passionate vocals – the perfect backdrop for what WATERS’ music is all about.
