They are currently making an exciting new TV series called Guess the Relative (working title) and it's a fun and entertaining show all about family history and our distant living relatives.
In it, people from around the world will get the chance to travel to Britain to discover living British relatives, who they never even knew existed. Here is their outline:
Guess the Relative is a new primetime program for Channel 4 Television - a major UK broadcaster. In each episode of the program, one British family will meet three mystery guests who have come to visit from all over the world. The family is told that one of the three is in fact a distant relative, and the other two are not. The family and their guests will all live together for one week, and take part in a number of entertaining tasks during which they must try and deduce which of the three is their genuine relative.
At the end of each episode, the real relative is announced and their ancestral connection revealed. If the family has guessed correctly, they may win a prize to share with their new relation.
It is a witty and irreverent primetime program, but behind the entertaining nature of the show, it playfully raises questions of family identity, shared values, unknown ancestry and genealogy that are pertinent for us all.
They are currently looking for people from the USA who think they may have a distant ancestor from the UK. Their ancestor might be several generations back and come from England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland - but if they have any link to the UK whatsoever, we want to hear about it!
PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately due to the large number of applications they will be unable to reply to all applicants individually. You will only hear from them if you have been short listed to take part.
To be a contestant on "Guess the Relative" you must fall within the following criteria:
- You must be aged 18 years or over.
- You must not have a criminal record unless spent.
- You must not be a member of staff, or relative of a member of staff, of Dragonfly Film and Television Productions Limited or Channel 4.
