Tournament to Upgrade

Since our devastating flood last September the Mill Creek Golf Club is slowly trying to bring our course back. Much of debris has been removed and burned but it still lingers on some holes such as the Springs nine holes the #1 and #9 still have lots left to upgrade. Our Pro Manager Matt and Gary the course manager have worked hard to set up 18 holes we can play.

A couple weeks ago a meeting was held to find out if a tournament could be held to help raise money to remove the rock in our once beautiful creek. It has been left with tons of rock, shale and gravel which is blocking the free flow of the creek. A group of men had cleared the creek from below our one way bridge coming into Mill Creek. This is the reason for this tournament is to help finance the rest of the clean-up from that bridge to the next low water bridge some distance away. When driving down the cart path to the women’s tee on #1 and #10 one can see the devastation on both sides of this area where our once scenic creek is full of rock.

Things are moving right along and I am helping organize and talk up this tournament. I also plan to sponsor a team or some of the golf holes. All the money from the $80.00 per person to play in this tournament plus the sponsorship of the golf holes will go to help finance the clean up. Morris Foster owner of the golf course is offering the golf course with no green fees, free golf cart use, the club house use for volunteers to furnish food and refreshments. We are hoping for a good turnout of the community in the clean-up flood damage.

Since I updated the two markers by the club house I was hoping it would inspire some group to work on updating the golf course. Well it finally happened and the group who called the first meeting where not even members of the golf course. They did live near the creek and in Mill Creek so wanted to see the creek and the golf course brought back to life. It is creating good interest in the community. If everyone pulls together we can get this done as it has been a long time since September 9, 2010 when this flood happened.

I also offered to furnish cookies to the group as the LGA was asked to do this and since I have been on a cookie baking spree so have plenty to spare. This will be on August 15 a Tuesday and since the course is closed on Tuesday it will work out fine for this tournament.
