Educational Lectures on YouTube

Traditional classroom educators must now use technologies that enhance learning in a virtual setting, and the transition can be seamless with the proper tools. Accomplishing this can be challenging and time-consuming.

Many universities require educators to create online video presentations, presented asynchronous or live video lectures. Simple presentation programs such as PowerPoint offer audio capabilities, allowing instructors to voice their presentations, which creates a more personal delivery of the course material. Weekly presentations can be time-consuming if the university requires instructors to rotate courses taught each term. There are some time savers to consider.

Take a moment to visit YouTube.com to search for topics related to your area of instruction. If you query the term “algebra,” for example, the search results number in the thousands and include methods of solving basic equations, explanations of why learning algebra is essential, step-by-step tutorials, and lectures on algebra from various university professors. Using videos such as these saves online educators time and adds diversity to your teaching. Presenting a variety of YouTube videos, which have been created in various formats—whether a lecture from another university professor, an animation, a visual riddle, or even a demonstration of algebra from students in other universities—produces a more stimulating learning environment compared to listening to the same instructor deliver a lecture each week.

There are a variety of YouTube videos to choose from, from introductory, simple lectures to complex lectures by top university professors at MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and other prestigious universities. You can also assign video lectures as course assignments requiring students to write research papers. Remember that not all universities allow their educators to use YouTube, so please review the university guidelines to understand better which resources are allowed.
