Legally Hot

Hello, and welcome back! Our winter has been extremely disappointing here so far, and it doesn’t seem as if Mother Nature is going to give us much more than the few tiny tastes we’ve had over the last several months. Color me unhappy. And worried–if our winter is this mild, I’m very afraid of how miserable the coming summer is going to be.

This time out, I have the anthology Legally Hot (St. Martin’s, received from publisher), with stories by Lora Leigh, Cheyenne McCray, and Red Garnier. Leigh leads things off with “Sheila’s Passion” and friends-with-benefits Nick Casey and Sheila Rutledge about to hit a snag in their casual relationship when Sheila realizes she wants more than a bed buddy, and Casey has no clue what’s causing her to pull away. Add in someone on the hunt for an old enemy, and this pair has some serious issues to overcome. “Deadly Dance” from McCray is next, with Detective Adam Boyd determined to protect Keri Holliday when the man she sent to prison with her testimony is released and bent on revenge. Keri’s life may be in danger, but she’ll trust the sexy detective to keep her safe. She’ll also trust him with her heart if he’s brave enough to lower the walls around his own. Garnier’s “Caught” puts Megan Banks and officer Cody Nordstrom in the sights of a killer too close to home. Megan has wondered what happened to Cody for a long time, and now that he’s back in her life, she doesn’t want to give him up again, no matter what his brother has planned for the two of them. If you’re a regular here, you know by now I’m no fan of Leigh. I find her heroes far too overbearing, even for Alphas, and I do love a good Alpha hero. McCray’s heroine seems like she’s strong, but perhaps Adam is too overprotective? For some reason, I had a hard time liking Keri and Adam. Garnier’s Cody is self-sacrificing in the extreme, and his brother is over- the-top bad. I wish I’d liked these stories better. I’m borrowing only two of Cupid’s five arrows for this collection, I’m afraid.

Until next time, happy reading!
