Essential Oils on The Go

I worked a trade show last week and we were steaming lounge wear. The way I had the nozzle in my hand, the steam burned the heck out of both hands especially my fingers.

Ok, so you can’t work a trade show, in comfort, with your fingers burning. American Express reminds you to never leave home without it, the card that is. While it's a great idea, I also suggest you never leave home without your essential oils.

Guess what, I did. I left home without my essential oils. Fortunately for me, a colleague was working the same trade show and had her oils. For those that understand what this means, to have your oils is like having a medicine cabinet with you at all times.

Are essential oils medicines? To some, they are. What I do know is that I’ve burned myself a few times, steaming fabrics, ironing and cooking. I keep lavender in my kitchen. I have tried its use for myself and it has worked for me.

A combination of oils to have in your travel pack are:

Lavender: Not only does lavender work on burns but your can apply it to bee and wasp stings. Lavender oils are also helpful in treating headaches. Lavender oils have also been known to stimulate white blood cell formation. This enables your body's defenses to strengthen.

Lavender mixes well with orange, bergamot, geranium, clary sage, rose and pine. Lavender is the one oil that can be use directly on your skin. I'd still suggest adding it to a base oil, (jojoba, sweet almond, coconut) just to be on the safe side.

Sandalwood: known for its calming, harmonizing and balancing effects, Sandalwood allows you to slow your vibration. It's been used to help calm nervous tension, depression, fear and stress.

Also considered an aphrodisiac, Sandalwood is used in perfumes, body lotions and oils to attract the opposite sex. Sandalwood has also been used in relieving cramps, as a diuretic and to regenerate tissue.

Orange: Sweet warm sensuous and alive, orange oil is part of the uplifting oils. Orange oil is said to harmonize feelings and awaken creativity. It's also known to have a positive effect on your mood and make one joyful.

Have you ever smelled the sweetness of orange oil in furniture polish? It makes a room smell wonderful.

Orange oil is relaxing yet stimulating, balancing yet sensual, warming yet it can help in relieving nervousness and anxiety.

Tea Tree: Some of you call it by it botanical name, Melaleuca. Used to treat infections of all kind, tea tree oil has strong antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Tea tree oil has been said to be the go to oil for most infections. It works to heal challenges dealing with your skin and scalp.

These are but four basic essential oils that can travel with you wherever you go. They should be considered just as important and your lipstick or lip gloss.

As with all essential oils, take caution and test on a small area of your skin for allergic reactions.
