Cult Classics for Thanksgiving

If you are looking for a more off-beat film to watch this Thanksgiving, maybe one of the following will peak your interest. That is, if you don't mind a little blood and gore with your turkey dinner. Caution: Most of these films on this list may not be suitable for children.

The title says it all: "Captain John Smith and Pocahantas" (1953). The film depicts the historically tense relationship between Andrew Dexter as "Captain John Smith" and Jody Lawrence as "Pochahantas" while the settlers try to drive the natives from their land. While it is not a horror film, it may be the only cult classic listed here that you will be able to watch with the entire family.

"The City of the Dead" (1960) starring Christopher Lee and Venetia Stevenson. When a young college student named Nan Barlow decided to spend her Thanksgiving vacation researching witchcraft, she travels to the town of Whitewood, Massachusetts. When Nan mysteriously disappears, her brother and boyfriend set out to find her but they quickly realize that the town is not what it seems.

"Blood Freak" (1972), starring Steve Hawkes and Dana Cullivan. When down on his luck biker named Herschell helps a stranded young woman named Angel back to her house, she offers him her hospitality and a place to stay. While staying there, Herschell gets a job at a local turkey farm where scientists are experimenting with chemicals in turkey meat. Herschell agrees to being a guinea pig for the chemicals and eats the turkey with some serious side effects. No one mentioned that he may wake up with a giant turkey head in place of his own head and that he is now addicted to killing other drug addicts.

"Home Sweet Home" (1981), starring Jake Steinfeld and Vinessa Shaw. The Bradley family Thanksgiving dinner is about to become a nightmare. After a homicidal lunatic escapes from the local prison, he preys upon the Bradley family and their friends as his next killing spring. Be sure not to watch this gorey film after partaking in your Thanksgiving feast.
