While the list of ingredients is a little longer than in most recipes on this Quick Cooking Site, they are common ones that are most-likely already on the pantry shelves; all you need to do is measure them into a saucepan, whisk them together, and simmer them on the stove. Prep time is only about 15 minutes. The fact that the sauce is slowly simmered means little monitoring by the cook.
Restaurants specializing in BBQ usually offer several different BBQ sauces; while most of these sauces are tomato based (some sweet, some hot and spicy, some vinegary), the trend seems to be an additional sauce with a mustard base.
Sweet, Sour, & Smoky Mustard BBQ Sauce is a cut above those served in the BBQ restaurants, and will most likely become a favorite. Now's a good time to make it so you have it on hand when the grilling season is in full swing.
Makes about 4 cups BBQ Sauce
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dry mustard
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 cup spicy brown mustard
1 1/2 cups stone ground mustard
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons maple extract
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup corn syrup
- Whisk the ingredients together in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil.
- Stir well, turn down to a simmer, and let cook until thickened, 30-40 minutes. Stir once or twice while simmering.
- Cool, pour a cup into each of four freezer bags, and freeze until needed.
