Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Crime is running rampant in New York, especially with the Foot Clan and their leader, Shredder, on the prowl. But when TV reporter April O’Neill discovers the existence of four mutant turtles who not only speak but have ninja skills taught to them by their mentor, Splinter, all might not be lost. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching 1990’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

∙ Raphael and Leonardo are arguing after watching April’s interview on TV. Leonardo says “I never said I was a great leader” and Raphael walks towards him. In the side view of the two, just before Raphael says “you sure act like it sometimes”, a crew member wearing a white t-shirt and orange baseball cap can be seen hunkered down in the background between the wall and the table.

∙ When the shop below April’s apartment catches fire, there is a close-up of April, who’s holding onto an unconscious Raphael, with Leonardo beside her and they’re huddled together near the wall. They’re still together when Leonardo says “Come on, we need to get out of here”. The scene cuts to a view of the brawl that’s going on and Leonardo is shown fighting members of the Foot Clan with Casey Jones, Donatello and Michelangelo. It cuts back to April with Leonardo when she mentions the trap door.

∙ Raphael wakes up in the bathtub at the farm. When Leonardo has his arms around him, Donatello and April are standing in the doorway. Donatello makes the “Kodak moment” comment and starts to laugh. He crosses his arms in front of him, then unfolds them and leans back while he’s laughing again. When his mouth is open while he’s laughing, the mouth of Leif Tilden (who’s in the costume) can be seen underneath.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! After Shredder goes over the ledge, Splinter’s nunchucks are wrapped around the edge of the sword. Splinter is holding on to the handles of the nunchucks with each hand. Shredder takes a knife and throws it at Splinter. The close-up shows him catching the knife in his right hand. It then cuts to a close-up of his hand letting go of the nunchucks even though he had already done that to catch the knife!

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990) stars Judith Hoag, Elias Koteas, Sam Rockwell, Michael Turney and James Salto. It runs 93 minutes and is rated PG for violence, language and frightening/intense scenes.
