1457 - This is the date traditionally observed as the start of the Battle of Megiddo.

1868 - Reno, Nevada was founded.

1901 - Australia’s first parliament convened in Melbourne.

1949 - Rainier became Prince of Monaco.

1960 - The FDA approved the sale of the birth control pill.

1974 - Impeachment hearings in the Watergate Scandal began.

James Barrie author of “Peter Pan” was born in 1860.

Candice Bergen the star of TV’s “Murphy Brown” and “Boston Legal” was born in 1946.

James L. Brooks the writer/producer of such notable films as “As Good As It Gets” and “Terms of Endearment” as well as the popular TV show “The Simpsons”.

John Brown the renowned abolitionist was born in 1800.

Howard Carter one of the discoverers of Tutankhamen’s tomb was born in 1874.

Rosario Dawson who starred in “Clerks II”, “Sin City” and “Alexander” was born in 1979.

Albert Finney the critically acclaimed actor who has starred in “Tom Jones”, “Annie”, “Erin Brockovich” and was the voice of Finis Everglot in the animated “Corpse Bride” was born in 1936.

Glenda Jackson who starred in “Touch of Class” was born in 1936.

Billy Joel the legendary singer/musician behind such hits as “Piano Man” and “We Didn’t Start The Fire” was born in 1949.

Alley Mills who starred as Norma on TV’s “The Wonder Years” as well as on daytime TV’s “The Bold & The Beautiful” was born in 1951.

Frank Perdue one of the founders of Perdue Chicken was born in 1920.

Tom Petersson bass player for the rock band Cheap Trick was born in 1950.

David Prater one half of music’s Sam & Dave who had a hit song with “Soul Man”.

Tommy Roe the singer of “Dizzy” was born in 1942.

Hank Snow the country singer who had hits songs with “I’m Moving On” and “I’ve Been Everywhere” was born in 1914.

Mike Wallace reporter and journalist for TV’s “60 Minutes” was born in 1918.

We Said Goodbye To…

Herschel Bernardi the voice behind such favorites as the Jolly Green Giant and Charlie the Tuna passed away in 1986 at the age of 62.

James Jones the author of “From Here to Eternity” and “The Thin Red Line” passed away in 1977 at the age of 55.

Marion Lorne the actress best remembered as Aunt Clara from TV’s “Bewitched” passed away in 1968 at the age of 82.

Keith Whitley the country singer who had hit songs with “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” and “Don’t Close Your Eyes” passed away in 1989 at the age of 33.
