What's on the 'Menu' for Father's Day?

Usually, on Mother's Day, families flock to restaurants to give Mom a break. But, I think, on Father's Day, for the most part, that is not the case, as Moms always know Dad likes a good home-cooked meal. And, nothing says LOVE like a wonderful meal, straight from Mom's kitchen. My father used to love when I made one of his favorite meals, roast pork with saurkraut - the saurkraut was in the roasting pan right along with the pork roast. He used to go into a little dance - which he would do when that dinner was about to come to the table. When he and my significant other started monitoring each other for how much saurkraut each was consuming - I started buying the larger can of saurkraut to avoid any bickering at the table. It was a good feeling to know my dinner was so popular!

Even though it is summer time, you can never go wrong with a hearty dish, which tends to be a little heavier on the stomach, but it's a special occasion, so it's okay to bend the rules on this special day. I'm sure whatever you Moms decide on - as you know what Dad likes best - it will be the perfect choice.

I visited Lycos to see what it had to say about Father's Day. Here are some of the top searches for TV Fathers that are getting a lot of action on the internet: Bill Cosby (understandably), John Stamos - okay, his show, Full House, did feature those hugely popular, beautiful, famous and rich, Olson twins. Pushing onward with the list - James Gandolfini, Kiefer Sutherland .................wait, wait a minute, did I say James Gandolfini? Kiefer Sutherland? what's up with that? okay, Gandolfini is popular from The Sopranos - but searching his name for Father's Day? is somebody looking to buy a gun? this sounds ominous........and, what about Kiefer? where does he come in as far as Fathers Day? someone please explain this to me, because it completely eludes me. Then there's Ozzie Osbourne - okay, we won't go there (I did, though, recently buy my niece a blanket that has the whole Osbourne family in color on it); Fred Flintstone and Homer Simpson, are two more names featured on that list. What I'm trying to figure out is - what can you do with the search results on these cartoon characters? are people trying to purchase something for their Dads that they saw Homer or Fred receive? or are they going to buy Dad a DVD on one of these guys? Last but not least, Herman Munster. Is he still with us? long time, no see, Herman. Gee, it's not Holloween time; well, maybe there are reruns on The Munsters that are currently being run on TV. I guess "Frankenstein" is "in" right now. I'll have to remember that.

The search name, 'Father's Day', according to Lycos, has been No. 34 on their list for the past two weeks. Wow, that's going to be a lot of presents for some lucky Dads. Dad will be happy to know that he is "IN" right now. He could, if he plays his cards right, get a lot of mileage out of that!

In lieu of the usual shirt or tie - why not see if you can buy Dad two tickets to one of the sports games that he is interested in? Better yet, surprise him and take him one night. What about gathering the family together and taking him to the movies? (show, popcorn and refreshments on you!) Try something new and different with Dad. How about Mom packing a picnic lunch and the family driving to a nice park - maybe you even know someplace with a lake, where you can all enjoy a beautiful family outing;.... wash Dad's car for him - or wash your cars together!

Whatever you decide to do, just stop for a moment and be grateful that you still have your Dad - Stepdad - Husband - Significant Other, in your life.

I'm trying to figure out why my ex-husband sometimes buys my daughter a plane ticket to visit him on Mother's Day weekend, instead of Father's Day weekend..........hmmmmm.........never have figured that one out.........I guess it's an "ex-husband" thing.

I will be apart from my significant other this Father's Day, and that has me a little blue - especially since he treats me so special every Mother's Day; but, I've sent him off a little surprise package to show him I'm thinking of him and I know that will tickle him and show him that he is very much in my thoughts and that I appreciate all he does for me. It's so good to be remembered - and just as good to show someone that you remember them and how much you care!

So, don't forget - mark your calendar - this Sunday, June 20th. Be there for Dad / Hubby / Partner / Stepdad!

Remember, it's the little things that count. It doesn't have to be formal. And, to the children of single Moms or widows out there - it's Father's Day for your Moms as well, as she is both Father and Mother to you - do something special for her!

Have a memorable Father's Day!
