Hello, and welcome back! We're still having the unusually warm weather here, but I don't think it's going to last too much longer. Unfortunately, that's the sort of weather change that has people around here getting sick, so I imagine our soup pot will be working hard in the next week.

This time out, I've got Leanne Banks's Trouble in High Heels (Grand Central). This is the last of Sunny Collins's daughters, Lori Jean Granger. Lori's father left her plenty of money when he died, but Lori's been giving it away so quickly, she's going to run out of living funds well before more of her inheritance is released to her. In six years. Jackson James is the new accountant assigned to handle Lori's account, and because of his plans for his own life, he absolutely will not fail to bring Lori's outrageous spending into line. Sure, she's giving her money to some good causes and charities, but Jackson won't bend to her wiles when she tries to work them on him. His plans for his future don't include dealing with not-too-bright rich girls, but developing real estate. Only Lori isn't dumb as he'd originally assumed, and he knows from the first that she's gorgeous. But he's going to be professional. Until Lori decides to have him find her a temporary husband so she can get her hands on her money sooner. She's got to have it to help a friend to keep her ranch where handicapped children come to visit. Jackson is none too pleased to be vetting prospective husbands for Lori, and less so when his first two attempts are summarily shot down. But when the news gets out that she's looking for a husband, there are men lining up around the block for a chance. She and Jackson have to get out of town in a hurry, and where better to go than her friend's ranch? That gives them a little time to get to know one another better, a place with privacy, and, oh, yes, one of her wannabe grooms. This one is a lot of fun. Jackson is a fine hero, strong when he needs to be and just weak enough to admit his emotions when it's time. And Lori does some growing from the beginning of the story till the end, though she's never the weak simpering woman she presents to the world at times. It seems like this might be a good year for some straight romance, which makes me very happy: this is the second contemporary romance I've read in the last month or so that has no mystery, no paranormal elements, and is absolutely fantastic. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one, and wishing Lori still had another sister.
