Zany June Holidays

As May winds down—along with all the crazy holidays and celebrations of the month—June perks up and comes in offering a plethora of reasons to celebrate! As we look forward to graduations, Father’s Day and the beginning of summer, we have so many other things to celebrate!

June, as a whole, is designated as Gay Pride Month, but also, did you know that it is Aquarium Month, Fight the Filthy Fly Month, National Accordion Awareness Month, and Turkey Lovers’ Month (among others)? If you didn’t before, you do now! Those are just some of the monthly celebrations going on in June.

If you’re looking for a daily dose of celebration, June starts off daringly! June 1st is Dare Day—take a dare or make a dare! Just don’t double-dog dare your boss to give you a vacation—it may end up permanent. Perhaps take a D.A.R.E. and talk to your kids about drug and substance abuse. June 1st is an excellent day to dare a young person to stay drug-free—in fact, double-dog dare them for that!

Hold onto to your seats, June 2nd is Rocky Road Day. So, you can sing with Weird Al, “I love Rocky Road! Won’t you go and buy half a gallon, baby? I love Rocky Road! So, have another triple scoop with me!” And today’s the perfect day for triple scoops of Rocky Road! You can make your own or buy some from the grocery store. Go ahead and indulge, but don’t splurge--that is reserved for June 18th!

If Rocky Road’s not your thing, you’ll have to wait til June 7th for National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Of course, if Rocky Road is your thing and you like chocolate ice cream, as well, this is really your month! Celebrate the sweet, tasty goodness of chocolate ice cream today! You’ll be so glad you did!

June 18th is the day to remember you’re not paranoid if everyone’s really out to get you—it’s the International Day of Panic! That’s right! This is the day that people all over the world panic about anything and everything. But don’t panic! This isn’t the only day you can panic willy-nilly. There’s also a Panic Day in March!

Wear pink on June 23rd! Why? Because it’s National Pink Day! Oh, fine, you don’t want to wear pink because you don’t like it? Then wear it for a cause. A little pink ribbon or a pink bracelet can show your support for women’s breast cancer. Go Pink!

If you’ve been holding a grudge, hold it no more. Participate on June 26th in Forgiveness Day. As the adage goes, “To err is human, to forgive is divine,” and nothing feels better than letting go of grudges and past hurts and forgiving or being the one forgiven. Go ahead and give it a try—you’ll be glad you did!

There are a few more days left in the month that have celebrations—such as Paul Bunyan Day (27), Insurance Awareness Day (28), and Meteor Day (30). Whatever day you decide to celebrate, have fun and be safe!
