- A woman who had been married five times living with a man who was not her husband, thinking, "She’s of low moral character and I have nothing in common with her."
- A person with different religious beliefs thinking, "I don’t want to argue with someone’s personal beliefs."
- A woman who had been married five times and currently living with a man who was not her husband, seeing an unhappy person who desperately needed Him.
- A woman with mistaken religious beliefs seeing someone who needed to know the Truth.
Most people would have walked on by this woman. Many people would have considered her unworthy of their time.
But Jesus is not like most people. He sees right through to the heart, loving the person and filling the need.
Jesus took the initiative and approached this woman, giving her the most precious spiritual blessing that can be given, knowledge of the One who would save her life.
The story did not end there.
The woman, when she learned the Truth, left her water jar and ran back to the town and, with the enthusiasm of a refreshed soul, proceeded to tell of her experience. Word spread quickly and many people left the city to find Jesus.
Because of this woman’s testimony, many were saved. John 4:39-42
What would happen if we all would look past the scars and pretenses of this world, right into the heart of those we meet? Sharing the love of Jesus with one person, who might not outwardly seem open to the message, could start a ripple that could become a tidal wave of saved lives.
My prayer:
Father, I have been the woman at the well and if it wasn’t for your love, I would still be there. Remind me to look for others in that place and to see them through your eyes.
