C2E2 2012 - Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo

The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Show, or C2E2 2012, has blown into town and back out just as quick. Lots of fans gathered in the Windy City to share in celebrating all of their interests. It was quite the full weekend as there was no shortage of events to keep you interested.

You can’t have a big convention without some good comic news. Several publishers released information on comics coming later in 2012. Marvel Comics is set to unleash two fan-favorite team players, Gambit and Hawkeye, on the world for some solo fun. James Asmus and Clay Mann will be guiding the popular mutant while the creative team behind the Immortal Iron Fist, Matt Fraction and David Aja, reunite to handle the avenging archer. Valiant Comics, gearing up for their return to the comics industry, also dished on their major series hitting shelves in 2012.

It’s not much of a big convention without great costumes. And there were plenty of them, two of which were worn by me, seen throughout the weekend. The characters ranged from some of the most popular characters in media to some very obscure ones. Because Marvel Comics is preparing for the release of the highly anticipated Avengers’ film, they were a ton of fans dressed as Avengers. That’s almost standard fare though. Very few conventions are short on members of the super-teams Avengers, X-Men, and Justice League.

Famous faces from various fields made the trek to Chicago. Comic creators such as Dan Slott, Gail Simone, and Amanda Conner were in town to meet their fans. Several television and movie stars, the likes of which included John Cusack and Shia Labeouf, were also in attendance. Several stars of AMC’s hit program the Walking Dead, Steven Yeun and Maggie Cohan, joined in on the weekend’s activities as well.

The major difference from previous shows which may have disappointed attendees was the lack of nighttime activities. The 2011 show held multiple events at night over the weekend including multiple parties and fan gatherings. One touch that pleased many was the “CBR Bar.” The Hyatt hotel’s bar was renamed this for the weekend. A special menu consisted of a short list of superhero themed adult beverages.

Did you make it to the show? What are your thoughts on the events of the weekend? If you didn’t make the trip to Chicago, there’s always next year as this show already has the next date set and can only grow. See you all in 2013.
