The Hermit Thrush is a small brown bird with a spotted breast, and is the only thrush to stay in colder climates year-round. That makes it the perfect state bird for Vermont.
This bird is around 7" long with big, black eyes and a short black beak. It lives in woodlands and bogs. They eat berries and insects. They are found in the mountainous regions of the far eastern and western US.
Known as Catharus guttatus, the bird is well known for its lovely song.
