Delaware - 10" Quilt Block
The next block in our State Quilt Block Series is Delaware. We'll be working with quarter-square and half-square triangles to create this block.

Cut one 5-1/4" square and two 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles | |

Cut two 4-7/8" squares and one 2-1/2" square. | |

Cut one 5-1/4" square and two 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. |
Sewing Instructions:
Step 1: Using a ruler and rotary cutter, cut the green and yellow 5-1/4" squares into four triangles as shown below:
Step 2: With right sides together, layer a yellow triangle on a green triangle. Sew a 1/4" seam along the right side as shown below. Press seam toward the darker fabric. Repeat once more for two yellow/green triangles.
Step 3: With right sides together, layer a yellow triangle on a green triangle. Sew a 1/4" seam along the left side as shown below. Press seam toward the darker fabric. Repeat once more for two green/yellow triangles.
Step 4: Using a ruler and rotary cutter, cut each red 4-7/8" squares into two right triangles as shown below:
Step 5: With right sides together, layer a red triangle on a green/yellow triangle. Sew along the longest side using a 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance toward the red fabric. Repeat three times more for a total of four green/yellow/red squares.
Step 6: Arrange the three-color squares, rectangles, and the center square as shown in Diagram 1. With right sides together and using a scant 1/4" seam, sew together to form rows as shown in Diagram 2. Sew rows as shown in Diagram 3 to finish the block.

Your block should measure 10-1/2" on all sides. It will measure 10" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt. |
