Brow Chakra Workout

Keeping your chakras healthy and functioning well will go a long way towards keeping you in great shape physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Here I help you assess the health of your brow chakra and suggest ways you can develop it.

The Brow chakra is the second of the 'upper chakras'. This does not make them better than the 'lower chakras' just different in function. Whereas the lower chakras are concerned with your physical existence on this planet, the higher chakras are more to do with your spiritual life.

I suggest working with the three lower chakras in order, then spending time at the Heart Bridge before going on to work with the higher chakras in order as those who neglect the lower chakras can become very ungrounded and find it hard to cope with everyday challenges. Please look at the health of your Base Chakra, Sacral Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Heart Chakra and Throat Chakra if you have not done so already.

The Brow Chakra
The brow chakra is often referred to as the third eye chakra and it is found in the centre of your forehead above and between your physical eyes. This is your centre of sixth sensory perception, or ESP, and it is very active when we work psychically. It relates to the pineal gland in the brain, which has been proven to respond to light.

Well balanced the brow chakra can allow you to view life from a state of detachment, avoiding getting sucked into the emotional turmoil of a situation. You can be receptive and open to intuitive knowledge.

The third eye is especially active in daydreams, meditations, visualisations dreams and visions. These are not bounded by physical rules and can give us an enriched understanding and insight into ourselves and our world.

On the physical level the brow chakra is related to the eyes, ears & nose.

Potential signs of dysfunction
Underactive: depression, confusion
Overactive: recurrent nightmares, mania, neurological disturbances, headaches and hallucinations

Brow chakra Workout
The Bija mantra for this chakra is Aum, or OM, which is the most commonly used of all mantras. Feel it vibrating at the third eye as you chant.
The brow chakra responds well to visualisation, so set time aside to picture things in your mind’s eye. One lovely exercise for this is to imagine a beautiful garden and then return and plant new flowers and trees. Keep going back there, adding new features and watching your garden grow. It will be a sanctuary for you to go to as well as good exercise for the third eye.
Daydreaming is really just visualisation with your eyes open. Next time you find yourself daydreaming feel less guilty about it- you are working out the third eye!
As you develop your thrid eye you may notice things that you haven’t seen before with your physical eyes. Don’t worry, you are just becoming more sensitive and perceptive.
Deep blue crystals such as lapis lazuli are good to place on the third eye and can help you when visualising.
If you suffer from an overactive third eye you can close it down, especially at night when you want peaceful sleep. Imagine it closing to a tight bud and if necessary put a blindfold over it- a bit like a crazy pirate’s eye patch!

Watching Anodea Judith’s beautiful DVD on the chakras is a bit like an open eyed visualisation. I love it!
