Mini Dolls Pants Outfit Sewing Instructions

Here are sewing directions to make a pants outfit for 6 inch to 8 inch mini dolls such as those by American Girl, Tonner Betsy McCall, and similar body types with a chest measurement about 4 inches.

This is a very easy to make pattern with just 3 pieces - shirt front, shirt back and pants. The sleeves are part of the shirt.

For photo of the completed pants outfit on a 7 1/2 inch doll click here.

The outfit can be made from scraps of leftover fabric from your scrap basket.

Construction directions

Shirt construction

With right sides of back and front shirt facing, sew together at shoulders. Press seam open.

At neckline roll edge in and blind stitch to inside.

Because this is such a tiny shirt, I recommend that you hem the sleeves at this point, before you sew the underarm seams. To hem, roll the bottom edge of each sleeve to the inside and hem stitch, or blind stitch to inside.

Stitch front to back underarm seam on each side. Hem the bottom of the shirt as you did the sleeves. Attach tiny velcro dots to close the shirt and sew on the two tiny buttons.

Pants construction

Sew the pants legs together at the center seams (the short, straight seam) to make a front and back. Press the seams open. Sew the front to the back around the curved seam. Clip the curve. Hem the legs as you did the sleeves. Stitch the front and back together at the sides, with right sides facing. Turn the waistline toward the inside and stitch in place. Using a basting stitch, gather the waistline to fit the doll and secure the thread in place so the gatherings do not come out. With a doll this small the gathered thread will keep the pants in place, it is not necessary to put elastic in the waist; but you may if you wish.

Finishing

Tack the 1/4 inch inch wide satin ribbon on pants at waistline, putting the middle of the piece of ribbon at the center back seam. Tie in a bow.
