"Poetry in Thread... The flower patterns and the notecards featured in "Rings of Flowers" remind me greatly of Haiku, a form of Japanese poetry. The poem suggests the beauty of a moment in time captured in but the fewest of words. Mary Maynard's tatted designs "freeze-frame" moments from a garden using but a few pen strokes for greenery and a few stitches in thread. This is an exciting first book of tatting patterns created by Mary Maynard of Laramie, Wyoming. A left-handed tatter of many years experience, Mary holds a BS in Textiles and Merchandising. In this book she combined her business acumen and her love of tatting to produce a reference tool for tatters."
Mary Maynard has shared some of her patterns online. Here is a page of designs and instructions for several designs:

Mary Maynard published a second book, "Tatting a 4 Square Ring." The concept behind the book was simple. Tatted lace created by a basic pattern; the 4 Square ring. Mary explained it this way: There are 4 double stitches between picots and joins in both rings and chains. It's an intriguing way to build a tatting pattern. |
