A Servant's Heart

Life can become like a cycle that lead believers around in circles. As a Christian, we find that doing for others can become overwhelming. We are expected to set aside our own needs and desires to put others first. As we become tired, and frustration sets in, we have to remind ourselves of our purpose to serve God.

In this day and time, the thought of being a servant is a lowly position. There is no honor in serving others. It requires a selfless attitude. We are called to be servants like Jesus.

According to the Bible, Jesus lived a life of service. You will not find anywhere in the Bible where Jesus put himself first. Not even to get out of bad situations. He always put the needs of others first.

According to Philippians 2:5- 11, it reads as follows:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As we become more like Jesus Christ, we also are tasked with the position of servant. Serving others with a pure heart, without expecting anything in return is needed.

It may not always feel good. It can be a humbling experience. In that moment, you are decreasing self, and increasing Jesus Christ in you. In John 13:1-17, Jesus washed his disciples feet. We are not expected to do anything that Jesus Christ himself has not done. In fact, to serve him is to serve others.

As we strive to put Jesus Christ first, we must increase our servant’s heart. Put the needs of others before yourself without an expected return because your reward will be given to you. You will be showing your love for Jesus Christ by demonstrating his love through a servant’s heart.

Be Blessed.
