Peppermint Essential Oil and Its Many Uses

Mentha Piperita, that's the botanical name for what you know as Peppermint essential oil. Used in everything from foot soaks to toothpaste, it's a big winner when it comes to personal care products. Peppermint is a hybrid of Spearmint and Watermint. It's a perennial and when properly maintained it makes a great companion plant that can often deter garden pest.

Got a problem with mice around your home? Peppermint has been used to get rid of these little suckers. Spray around your doors, windowsills and outside perimeters of your home and this could help reduce such unwanted visitors.

On a more pleasant note, you can pair peppermint essential oil with many others essential oils and make great spray mist for for different uses. Let's take a look at a few recipes

Need to purify the air? Try this Purifying Mist

8 drops Lemon essential oil
4 drops Peppermint essential oil
4 drops of Tea Tree essential oil

Place oils into an amber glass or PET bottle then add 1 oz of distilled water. Shake well before each use and let her rip!

Feeling fog on the brain, lacking concentration? Try this blend as a way to be more Mentally Alert

9 drops Lemon essential oil
5 drops of Rosemary essential oil
3 drops of Peppermint essential oil

Place oils into an amber glass or PET bottle then add 1 oz of distilled water. Shake well before each use.

Rise and Shine. This blend will wake you and your senses up when used in the morning.

8 drops of Grapefruit essential oil
5 drops of Orange essential oil
3 drops of Peppermint essential oil

When properly distilled, Peppermint can be used in shampoos, body washes and soaps. It can be used in diffusers to lessen head congestion as well as cleanse the air. Menthol, the main ingredient is said to help give temporary relief of muscle and nerve pain. Go figure!

Peppermint essential oil is one of the staples you'll want to have in your medicine cabinet. Add Lavender and Tea Tree to the shelf and you've got the makings of some very helpful alternatives for scrapes, burns and sore muscles.
