After years of being away from town, novelist, Ben Mears, returns to the small town of Salem’s Lot, Maine. Things might have changed since he left, but Ben still remembers the decrepit Marsten House, the focus / plot of his next novel. Ben’s obsession with the house intensifies when antiques dealer, Richard Straker, and his mysterious partner, Kurt Barlow, rent the home. With the arrival of the new tenants, Salem’s Lot soon finds itself in the grip of evil and Ben Mears along with town residents Susan Norton, Jason Burke and Mark Petrie find they’re the only ones left to stop it. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Salem’s Lot”.

∙ At the beginning of the movie, when Ben Mears is driving his Jeep past the Salem’s Lot city limit sign, the passenger side window is up. A few moments later, when he makes a left turn in town, the passenger window is down.

∙ Ben is having dinner with his former teacher, Jason Burke. In the front view, when Jason mentions he’d be proud if he helped develop two authors, Ben is shown picking up his glass from the table with his right hand and holds it. The scene cuts to a closer view when Jason says “you had the gift” and Ben can be seen picking up the glass again.

∙ Ralphie and Danny Glick are walking through the woods after leaving Mark’s house. After being separated, the winds starts blowing and Ralphie is shown backing up from the same spot twice.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Danny Glick is outside of Mark’s window. Mark’s right arm is outstretched while holding the cross. In the close-up view as he starts to back away, Mark draws his arm in, toward his chest. The scene cuts to a right side view and his arm is still outstretched while he backs toward the bed.

“Salem’s Lot” (1979) is based on the book by Stephen King and stars David Soul, Lance Kerwin, Bonnie Bedelia, Lew Ayres, James Mason, Ed Flanders, and Geoffrey Lewis. It runs 187 minutes and is rated PG for mature thematic material, violence/terror and frightening / intense scenes.
