What to Do:
WHEN BULLYING CONTINUES OR GETS WORSE


If the bullying gets worse and you need additional help, consider the following if:

• Someone is at immediate risk of harm because of bullying
Call the police 911

• Your daughter is feeling suicidal because of bullying
Contact the suicide prevention hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) It is there 24/7. It is also free and confidential

• Your child is (LGBT) and is feeling suicidal
The Trevor Project is determined to end suicide among LGBT by providing resources and a nationwide hotline. Please call (866-488-7386) or visit their website. It is 24/7, free and confidential

• Your daughter’s teacher is not keeping her safe from being bullied
Contact local school administrator (principal or superintendent)

• Your school is not keeping your daughter safe from being bullied
Contact the State School Department

• Your daughter is sick, stressed, not sleeping, or is having other problems because of bullying
Contact your counselor or other health professional

• Your daughter is bullied because of her race, ethnicity, or disability and local help is not working to solve the problem
Contact the U.S. Department of Education’s Office on Civil Rights


GLOSSARY

LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender)

Push Factor (Any negative condition or circumstance the encourages people to change their situation, especially as regards to human migration)

Voluntary Migration (population transfer)

Involuntary Migration (slave trade, trafficking in human beings and ethnic cleansing)

Social Groups - A social group is any number of people who share common goals and/or beliefs

Social Classes – Social classes are economic or cultural arrangements of groups in society

Verbal bullying - Verbal bullying includes teasing, name-calling, taunting and racial slurs, as well as spreading gossip or malicious rumors.

Cyber bullying – Cyber bullying includes harassing emails, instant messages and text messages, as well as intimidating or threatening websites, blogs or posts.
