CardMaker Magazine Review

CardMaker Magazine

Card making is one of the basics when you are a rubber stamper, and this magazine is filled with fresh, timely ideas. With departments such as “Our Favorite Products” which gives you a heads up on the newest and coolest items out there, and “CardMaker Bookshelf” which reviews some of the new books that are out. You can always find out about some of the best new items available. One of my favorite departments is “The Last Word” which is a collection of timely quotes for whatever holiday or season is upon us when the issue arrives. No searching for the perfect words, they are right there for you every time.

The projects they show are simple and as fun to make as they are to send, and it is easy to see how you can take their ideas and make so much more than cards with them. One of my favorite projects is from the July 2007 issue and is matching card, envelope, CD tin and CD art. This was very timely for me as I needed a gift for a family member and a photo CD was perfect. The matching card and cover made it special indeed.

They are not afraid to embellish their projects, and for me anyway, embellishments make the card. And yes, even my scrapbook pages are heavily embellished. Also, while they are embellishment heavy, they are not so specialized in their embellishments that a worthwhile substitute will be hard to find.

In my opinion, if you are looking for a magazine that will give you timely, fun ideas in a range of quick projects and styles, CardMaker magazine is the magazine for you. If you are looking for a magazine that challenges your abilities, this is not the best choice, but you can still have fun with the layouts they come up with.

With a cover price of $5.99 it is affordable and as a bi-monthly magazine you will never run out of projects. A subscription runs $19.99. CardMaker Magazine also has a wonderful website complete with bonus projects and a free e-newsletter you can subscribe to as well as their print magazine.

It is a magazine I will definitely keep up my subscription to.
