Honeymoon Travel Accommodations – Think Beyond the Hotel

Hotels make great honeymoon accommodations. It's so convenient to have a concierge at your beck and call, housekeeping staff to make your bed, plus fine dining, fitness centers and other lovely amenities at your fingertips.

But if you want to think outside the box a bit when it comes to your honeymoon accommodations, consider these options:

Bed and Breakfasts
This type of inn or small lodge offers just that: a comfortable room (and bed) to sleep in and breakfast every day. Usually that morning meal is included in your nightly rate. Typically your B&B host or hostess lives right at the establishment. B&Bs can be wonderfully quaint and romantic--some may have only 2 or 3 rooms to rent, others are bigger with multiple buildings on site. It's easy to mingle with other guests over breakfast or in a common living room. B&Bs are found all over the world--from the Napa Valley to the coast of Maine, as well as throughout Europe and on other continents.

Motels
If you're aiming for a budget-conscious vacation or U.S. road trip, consider a motel (or string of them) for your vacation. Motels typically have few amenities and offer little in terms of ambiance--your room's door often opens to the communal parking lot. But you'll save a bundle to spend on dining or other activities.

Condominiums
A one- or two-bedroom apartment might be ideal for honeymooners who simply want to enjoy lots of space. With a full kitchen, it's easy to save money by stocking groceries for breakfast and picnic lunches--or cooking up a romantic dinner for two. Condos, too, can be found in many vacation spots, from beach spots to mountain resorts.

All-Inclusive Resorts
If you plan on lying in the sun and not exploring too much outside your resort hotel, consider going all-inclusive. With this type of package, you'll pay up front for your accommodations, meals and drinks. At all-inclusive resorts--typically found in Mexico and the Caribbean--you'll also enjoy included amenities, such as the use of boogie boards and catamarans, evening entertainment, fitness classes and even learn-to-speak-Spanish or cooking seminars.

Castles
For a seriously out-of-the-box honeymoon, check out a bona fide, centuries-old European castle. These castles-turned-hotels actually once housed royal families--from barons to kings. Often nestled in scenic countryside, the pastoral setting can only add to the romantic atmosphere!
