Waterford Piper makes Magical Music

“My Love is in America”
David Power
On Uilleann Pipes

This news of “My Love is in America,” is the most important on the Irish traditional music scene in our generation. David Power is defined by his name as Ireland’s most exciting uilleann piper. If Irish music is your bag, “My Love is in America” is required listening. If Irish traditional music is your passion, this CD will be your treasure.

David is very well-known and has earned a major reputation in Ireland and among the US listeners, but this is the first opportunity for the worldwide musical community to enjoy his playing.

The reviews from the music community have been rave. Dermot McLaughlin in his “On Going Solo” column in The Journal of Music in Ireland, (May-June 2005) JMI web address was exceptionally fine, and representative of the glowing reports read and heard throughout the industry. “David Power’s ‘My Love is in America’…one of the best solo uilleann piping that has been made in years…Overall this is a satisfying and confident musical self-portrait of a talented, sensitive and imaginative player. The final track on the album includes a version of ‘The Bucks of Oranmore,’ coupled with ‘George White’s favourite.’ Why ‘The Bucks’ is so consistently consigned to be the last tune of a night’s music, or of a concert or of an album is beyond me. Perhaps it’s something to do with the alleged difficulty or complexity of the piece itself, not that it’s the finest of reels by any means. The playing here shows the extent to which Power can manage a fine balance between grounding his approach quite firmly in the Ennis style and still managing to retain his own personality.”

David’s CD was also met with more than a little excitement on the Uilleann Pipe forum on the “Chiff & Fipple,” Chiff & Fipple where the uilleann pipe cognoscenti devoted many posts to favorable reviews of one of their piping prodigies.

Lately, David has been playing and acting on Broadway in "Touch of the Poet" at Studio 54! Write-up coming soon.
