Pro Helps with Your Swing

Another article I found in this months Golf Illustrated was by Travis Fulton on Changing your Swing? Start With Short Clubs. This article interested me as it gave suggestion on how to start working on your golf swing is to start with the small clubs with a small swing first. He feels in this way he can get the golfer to better understand the changes made to the swing.
He feels if you can't chip the ball properly you won't be able to hit the pitch shot either and also the full swing of the fairway irons and woods. With these shorter swings it will teach you the proper contact with the ball. It is important to have the feel and success of the impact zone, Explaining the difference of the type of swing from the chip to the pitch is important to good control around the green.

Moving on the the medium swing which is to take the back swing a little higher and adding more speed. To introduce this motion it concerns the body that is called the pivot to load, shift and retate the body through the shot. By taking medium swings it lets the body accept the correct plane of the club to the ball and the release of the hands through to the ball.

At this time the author Mr. Fulton recommends that you are now ready to take the larger swing with the driver. The only difference with the driver is that you set the ball up forward in your stance. This causes the clubhead to srike the ball on a more level impact and not with a descending blow.

With all these tips in mind you can work on the pivot with the irons first until it feels comfortable and you are striking the ball with solid contact consistantly then it will improve your swing with your driver.

I know I need time with my Pro to clean up my swing and these suggestions are good ones. I usually start with my seven iron when working on the driving range and work up to the driver. It seems I have been lax in going to the driving range and that is when my swing started to fail me. I have made the New Years Resolution to get my swing back in shape and using the driving range on a consistant schedule.
