“College Football Encyclopedia” has facts and resources about different colleges that you wouldn’t know unless you are a fan of each team, from the best player to overall stats of the team. The profiles of the schools even include the fight song. The book also includes a helmet insert to show past helmets of the teams. Unfortunately, it only displays three styles from each team’s past. Do you want to know about Bowl games? They have a history of these games including the defunct bowls. There is an annual review starting in 1869 and concluding with the 2004 season. This detailed review gives the top 25 poll for each week since they started having the rankings. Need to know information on Black colleges or Ivy League schools? Then you are in luck, because there is a section on these great institutions as well. The book also presents numerous essays on different college football topics. Read how the different sports writers ranked players and then rank them on your own list in the back of the book.
“ESPN: College Football Encyclopedia” is a great resources book for the college football fan. It is reported to have some errors, but overall, the book is great. Football fans are touchy about stats (they should be) and ESPN has heard from them all. I am sure that ESPN is working to fix any errors.
