Surrender (Leisure) by Pamela Clare is up first, with Iain MacKinnon finds himself blackmailed into bringing his brothers to fight for the British in Canada, and how he comes to meet Annie, aka Lady Anne Campbell, falsely branded a thief and transported as a servant. This one holds little surprise, and, while the romance is tender, this one just didn't really grab me. Canada as a setting for a gorgeous Scotsman wouldn't be my first choice. A little disappointing after having read some of her previous work, this one earns three of Cupid's five arrows.
Lord Perfect (Berkley) by Lorett Chase is next, with Benedict Carsington, Viscount Rathbourne, the perfect man coming to meet a fascinating, and decidedly imperfect woman, Bathsheba Wingate. And when her daughter and his nephew get off on a treasure hunt, the pair has no choice but to chase after them. I was almost afraid to read this one after loving last year's Mr. Impossible, for fear of being disappointed. That worry was nothing but a waste of my time. This one is equally engaging, with Benedict learning that perfection is definitely in the eye of the beholder. He's charming and funny and decidedly sexy. And Bathsheba is perhaps even stronger, willing to sacrifice her own happiness. I'm giving this one four and a half arrows. It's a definite keeper! I imagine, from strong hints in this book, that Benedict's brother Darius is next, but I hope that we'll see Bathsheba's daughter and Benedict's nephew again in a few years, in a romance of their very own.
