Product Review - Ionic Rescue for Damaged Hair

The ISH website says that their Ionic Rescue products are used by Hollywood celebrities, Alicia Silverstone, Heather Graham and Sarah Michelle Gellar and that the products utilize Ionic Technology with Hair Renewal Crystals to recondition damaged hair. I thought I should give them a try. My hair is color enhanced and dry from regular blow-drying and straightening with a flat iron so I am a good candidate for this trial.

I used the at-home treatment. - Ionic One Minute Rescue. When I put some in my hand, I could see and feel the Hair Renewal Crystals in the creamy conditioner. The literature said that they activate with heat and seal moisture into the hair.

I shampooed my hair as usual, using my own moisturizing shampoo, but I did not use my usual conditioner as I always do. Instead, I got out of the shower and towel dried my hair. I combed my hair and it was a little tangled – I expected this with no conditioner. As the Rescue instructions directed, I applied a small amount to my hair. – I used about a nickel-sized dollop, emulsified between my palms and worked it through. I left it on for one minute and then proceeded to blow dry my hair. (The instructions state that those with fine hair, can rinse the product out. I have fine hair but it has lots of natural body, so I took a chance and left it in.) I was a little nervous at this point, wondering if I would be able to feel the product on my hair after drying since it is of a thick creamy consistency. I did not apply additional styling product but proceeded with blow-drying.

I used my round brush, since my hair tends to get frizzy, and worked carefully. I was pleased with how easily my hair smoothed out as I blew it dry. When it was completely dry, it was smoother than usual. I finished it with a large curling iron and flat iron. I was very pleased with the end result. It was very smooth and silky and without the fine, wispy feeling. – The real test: - two days later, without additional shampooing, it still felt clean and silky.

Next, I tried “I love my hair styling spray” by Ionic Rescue. I used it with the Rescue treatment. This time before I dried my hair, I used the styling spray in the crown where my hair often wants to fall flat now that it is long. The instructions state that it can be used on wet or dry hair so after my hair was dry, I used it on the front for more control.
Results: The crown area stayed full and did not feel sticky or stiff. The fringe area, where I used the product on dry hair, had more control but not the stiff hold of hairspray. I suggest it to take away the “too fine and fly-away” quality in your hair but if you want hold in dry hair, use hairspray.
Again, my hair stayed clean feeling for two days. This is a definite plus!

There is one thing that I did not like about the product. The printing on the bottle of One Minute Rescue is so small that it is hard to read even with magnifying glasses. It may be my aging eyes, but larger and darker print would have been much more comfortable.
But, even with the eye-strain, these products get a thumbs up from me.
