Primal Heat (Pocket Star) by Susan Sizemore is up first with her latest vampire, Mathias Bridger and Phillipa Elliot. The pair meet up at her sister's wedding into the Cage family, and before she knows what's hit her, they're off burning up the sheets, and then doesn't see him again for three years. There's a real keeper of a man. Or not. But Phillipa disagrees, because it isn't long before they're hitting the sheets again. Vampires aside, this one just doens't work for me with Mathias's 'I'm too dangerous to get involved with' attitude. I'm not a Sizemore fan, and this one hasn't converted me.
Thrill Me to Death (Pocket) by Roxanne St. Claire is next, with Bullet Catcher Max Roper taking a bodyguard assignment that puts him back in contact with his former fiancee, Cori Peyton, newly-widowed and suspected by the insurance company of killing her late husband. This is a pair clearly fated to be together and still obviously harboring feelings for one another. Unfortunately, the bad guy is no big surprise in this one, making for some disappointment in the latter stages of the story. For me, it's not a keeper, but it wasn't a bad read. It's earned two and a half arrows.
Trouble in High Heels (Signet) by Christina Dodd is next. Brandi Michaels's move to Chicago hasn't been very smooth, and discovering that her fiance has fled to Vegas to marry his pregnant girlfriend is just the capper. Her revenge: pawn the ring and indulge herself with a fling with a hot Italian, Roberto Bartolini. Too bad he turns out to be the client involved in her first case at her new job. This one isn't a very fast mover, and Brandi not all that sympathetic. Then again, I prefer Ms. Dodd's historicals to her contemporaries, so maybe it's just me. If you like her contemporaries, you'll probably like this one just fine. For me, it's not a keeper.
