Mega Fest 2006 Wrap Up

Mega Fest offered a "mega feast" for all of those who attended! Everything that you wanted to "taste" on a spiritual level Bishop T.D. Jakes and company served it up.


The festivities began with the Mega Fest Launch Celebration. Held at the International Plaza, Bishop Jakes kicked off the event while eager crowds of men, women and children looked on.

On Thursday night the Celebration of Unity Concert took place at the Georgia Dome. Paying tribute to Bishop Jakes' 30 years in the ministry this event had well wishes and performances from some of the top movers and shakers of the entertainment world. Star Jones-Reynolds, Will and Jada Smith, Marc Morial, Chris Tucker and many others spoke words of endearment about Bishop Jakes and how he has influenced them over the years. Will Smith also premiered the trailer for his new film "The Pursuit of Happyness" which is based on the rags to riches life story of Chris Gardner, the African-American self-made millionaire. He stated that this was the first viewing of the trailer for any audience. The first family of the Potter's House took the stage and Bishop Jakes' children and wife all told of their love for him and how proud each of them were about his service in the ministry over the years. The evening also featured some of the hottest gospel performances including music from Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Jeff Majors, Kelly Price and the Queen of Soul...Ms. Aretha Franklin. Franklin of course put the icing on the cake as she gave her famous rendition of "Day of Pentecost" it was truly a night to remember.

The next day the workshops were in full force and some of the best speakers took center stage. Messages from Bishop Paul Morton, Prophetess Juanita Bynum, and Bishop Jakes were delivered for all to enjoy. In addition conference attendees also received free health and wellness testing, financial advice from financial expert Dave Ramsey, and motivational speeches from Susan L. Taylor, editorial director of Essence magazine.

Kraft Gospel Talent Search took place at the Georgia World Congress Center and was hosted by Mary-Mary. Charlotte Embry was this year’s winner and she received the grand prize of $25,000 and a recording contract.

Steve Harvey held a live broadcast of his morining show where Fred Hammond and Kelly Price appeared.

Friday night the "Just Churchin' Comedy Show" hosted by Steve Harvey showcased the comedic talents of top comics. Tommy Davidson, Jonathan Slocumb and David Mann (Mr. Brown from the Tyler Perry plays) all gave clean, family-friendly comedy for everyone to enjoy. Vickie Winans also performed. Also on Friday night was the teen-centered event "You're Not Forgotten Concert" this power-packed and spirit filled show featured the likes of Deitrick Haddon, Tye Tribbett and Irocc.

Saturday the Family Expo featured a host of events including education presentations, a mini spa, book signings, and art exhibits. Chef G. Garvin of "Turn up the Heat" fame prepared mouth-watering dishes for all to enjoy during the much talked about cooking demonstrations.

The festivities ended on the high preaching note of Bishop T.D. Jakes himself. Delivering his message "The Door is Open" Bishop Jakes left the crowd filled with the Holy Spirit.
