Braided Picots Split ring Edging - Dagmar Pezzuto

EDGE WITH CROSSED PICOTS by Dagmar Pezzuto ©2013

Here is a great exercise in the split ring tatting technique and an introduction to working with crossed (or braided) picots. The long picots are depended from one side of the split ring and are created with shuttle one. There are also decorative motifs thrown off from the bottom side of the split ring using shuttle two. Those are called floating rings.

We call these decorative sets of three rings a cloverleaf motif if the center ring is larger than the two side rings. If the rings are all the same size we refer to that element as a trefoil. Note there is no chain between the rings and usually no bare thread showing. (There are exceptions to that.)
