The New Kids reigned supreme during the late 80s and into the 90s, but went their separate ways after attempting a comeback in 1994. New Kids on the Block albums include:
- New Kids on the Block (1986)
- Hangin' Tough (1988)
- Merry, Merry Christmas (1989)
- Step by Step (1990)
- No More Games: The Remix Album (1991)
- Face the Music (1994)
The stats on the band website boast that the group: sold more than 70 million albums, grossed more than 1 billion dollars, had 5 multiplatinum albums, 10 top 10 singles and 5 number 1 singles. If anyone doubts that they are working on something, the line at the end of the video seems to all but prove it: "Millions of fans around the world await their return. New Kids on the Block Are you ready?" Besides the promotional clip, the music video for the 1989 hit "You Got It (The Right Stuff) is also available by using the remote.
On a personal note, I'm torn as to whether I think they will be able to have success or whether the whole plan will fall flat. I was one of their pre-teen adoring fans growing up - my room was plastered with posters, I collected anything with their image on it: sheets and pillows, buttons, collector cards, shoelaces, tshirts - you name it, I wanted to have it. From the time I was 7 and their first cassette tape came out until the age of 13 I was hooked. But then I, like so many other girls, grew up and moved on. So now, a mother nearing 30, will I or their other "millions of fans" download their songs on our ipods? It's hard to say. But there's no other music that can instantly take me back to junior high like the New Kids.
