The Police formed in 1977 when Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers and Henry Padovani played clubs in London under the name The Elevators. Padovani left the band before the end of the year, and the remaining threesome went on to classic rock history. The Police recorded five studio albums and one live album, as well as several compilations.
The band members started to go their separate ways in 1984, with each member seeking a solo career. In 1986 they split, seemingly for good. But, over the years they have performed together for various occasions. The 2003 induction of The Police into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saw them reunite to play a few songs at the induction ceremony. In 2007 they reunited in honor of the 30th anniversary of the band. That reunion continues this year with a concert tour planned for the summer.
