OLTL McBain and Saybrook Together at Last

One Life to Live has had its share of super couples, such as Todd and Blair Manning and Bo and Nora Buchanan. We have watched Todd and Blair break up and try to move on with other people. Somehow, they always find their way back to one another.

Blair most recently moved on with the dark and handsome ex-cop John McBain. John and Blair were definitely hot. It seemed that Blair had finally found someone who was strong enough to deal with her. Enter Marty Saybrook, the local psychiatrist who was in love with John but unable to remember due to “amnesia”. Although John felt the same about Marty, he continued to get closer to Blair because he was unsure if Marty would ever remember her feelings for him again.

This all changed when Blair was stabbed in the back, ultimately because Todd had raped Marty years ago. Blair was hospitalized and Todd tried to get custody of the kids. Blair one upped Todd by marrying John, and the newlyweds won custody of the kids. The KAD Killer, Powell, had other plans and set John up for the crimes that he himself had committed.

John went on the run to clear his name and Marty went along for the ride. Slowly, she began to regain her memory and those old feelings for John came rushing back. For John, those feelings had never gone away. After the whole KAD Killer debacle came to a close, Marty magically and conveniently regained her full memory. At the same time, Blair was realizing that she wasn’t as over Todd as she thought she was.

Blair and Todd have been bonding over the return of a granddaughter that they thought was gone forever. They bonded over the kids and their mutual survival of Powell and his machinations. They continued to bond until the other day when Todd told Blair he was going to grab the boys and go on home. Blair obviously couldn’t believe what she was hearing and a shouting match quickly ensued, complete with insults and put downs designed for maximum pain.

A custody battle is predictably soon to follow now that Blair is well enough to take care of the kids. Plus, she has a stable marriage with a great guy, right? Not so much. Blair called John in a panic to discuss the marriage, telling him that she needed him now more than ever. Blair was oblivious to what her husband had been up to!

John let Blair down softly, confessing his feelings for Marty. Blair cried but eventually confessed her feelings for Todd as well. John, being the noble guy that he is, agreed to stay married to Blair in order for her to gain custody of the kids but that he was done after that and moving on with Marty.

John’s heart was finally free. He ran to Marty’s room with a red rose in hand and they shared a passionate embrace. I have never been a fan of Marty Saybrook, even when she was played by Christina Chambers. Having said that, I think my opinion has the potential to be swayed if the John and Marty pairing is worth the two year wait. Here’s hoping this couple lives up to the hype!

As for Blair, Todd has is hands full with Tea and yet another custody battle is imminent. Will this poor country girl ever find some real love?
