An Analysis of Brooke Logan

The Early Years
Born Brooke Logan, she is the daughter of Stephen Logan, Sr. and Elizabeth Hendricks. Stephen Logan had deserted the family while Brooke was young. While studying chemistry in college, Brooke helped her mother in the family catering business. That is where she first laid eyes on her future. Ridge Forrester was set to wed Caroline Spencer, a marriage designed to improved perception of the family heir rather than being out born of love. The precocious Brooke Logan would position herself so that when the time arose, she would be there for Ridge.

Married for Position
She married Eric Forrester, Ridge’s father. Together, they had a son whom they name Eric. That union allowed Brooke to dabble in chemistry at Eric’s company, Forrester Creations, where, coincidentally, his son Ridge, also worked. After a major discovery that would help propel the company to the top of the market, Brooke and Ridge shared a moment of unbridled passion. That chemical breakthrough gave Brooke the upper hand in Forrester Creations. As a result, she was given 51% of the company’s stock.

A Fallen Angel
Around this time, a now divorced Brooke was pregnant again with Eric’s child. Ridge delivered the baby girl while at a Big Bear cabin. As with most soap operas, Brooke tried her best to convince Ridge that baby Bridget was his daughter. However, her efforts were for naught as Ridge found out the ugly truth. Having lost everything that was precious to her; the fallen angel fled the country and fell into a catatonic state. In her absence, Eric and Stephanie Forrester gained guardianship of the children, Eric and Bridget.
During that time, Ridge found out he had fathered a child, named Thomas, with Dr. Taylor Hamilton, a psychiatrist. Trying to do the right thing and provide his child with a stable home, Ridge married Taylor, who was later involved in a fatal aircraft accident. Presuming his wife was dead; Ridge re-engaged Brooke and the two of them married.

An Analysis of Patterned-Behavior
Brooke has always loved Ridge. That is an undeniable fact. However, when she cannot have him, she turns to drugs, alcohol, or sex as her way to cope with the situation. While in this state, men in, or close to the Forrester family take advantage of her – or she allows them to have their way with her. Either way, Brooke wants a man who will love her and only her, unconditionally. She wants to feel protected and safe; which she is not. The antagonist in this story is her nemesis, Stephanie Forrester who feels that Brooke is not worthy of any man in the Forrester family. Brooke has caused much heartache with her desire to be close to Ridge.

Despite being married, of both the valid and invalid kind, to several men, Brooke always seems to find her way back to Ridge, who is undeniably, her soul mate. Without counseling, Brooke will continue this pattern of self-destructive behavior. As her confidence and self-esteem wane, she makes colossal mistakes that end up hurting not only herself, but her children as well.
